Get to Know WIN Technology — Your Upper Midwest Digital Infrastructure Provider
“What does WIN Technology do?” It’s a question we hear often. While calling ourselves a network and IT services provider is true to who we are, it doesn’t fully capture our impact on the communities in which we serve.
For example, when you send an email from your phone—whether to a colleague down the hall or a partner across the globe—our middle mile fiber optic network helps make that connection possible. And when you are watching a Vikings game at US Bank Stadium, visiting the Mayo clinic, or enjoying a weekend on the St. Croix in Stillwater, WIN supports the IT infrastructure and network connections that enable your personal devices.
The Only Managed IT Services Provider in the Upper Midwest with Our Own Network
Headquartered in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, WIN is a comprehensive technology solutions provider. We are the only managed IT services provider in the Upper Midwest that also owns and operates a fiber network across the region. Today, we own and operate over 20,000 miles of fiber while providing IT Services to organizations across Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Michigan.
But we didn’t begin this way.
Our Story
Founded in 1997, WIN Technology is unique in being owned by 31 independent telephone companies (Telcos) in Wisconsin.
Our story began when a group of independent Telcos in Wisconsin were frustrated with the services they received from major internet providers. They believed that through the formation of WIN they could own and control their own network, offering them diversity to the outside world without needing to depend on the larger providers.
WIN Network Service Offerings
As the use of cellphones began to grow, so did the WIN network. Not long after we established a fiber path from Minneapolis to Chicago and this enabled our network services to grow even more. WIN’s network services now include:
- Dark Fiber
- Dedicated Internet Access
- Ethernet
- Fiber Services
- Network Engineering
Introduction of the WIN Data Center
In 2007, we added data centers to the mix with the creation of our Eau Claire data center. Today, our WIN network extends to 20+ data centers across the Midwest for when you need big bandwidth connectivity.
NOC Services
As our network grew, we decided to bring our Network Operations Center (NOC) fully in-house. What had originally been outsourced, now had a fully capable team monitoring the network. Our NOC team has grown to the point where we now provide NOC services across the US through our partnership with INDATEL members.
WIN IT Service Offerings
In 2012, we introduced IT Services to our list of offerings. Today we provide a range of services from co-managed and fully managed IT services to one-time professional services projects and a host of additional IT infrastructure and cybersecurity solutions.
Fiber to NFL Stadiums
As our IT Services list continued to grow, so did our network. In 2014 the network expanded into Northern Illinois and by 2016 we had fiber in the US Bank Stadium! Two years later our network expanded into Iowa and has continued to grow across the Midwest. In 2020 we began to supply fiber to that other team in the North Division at Lambeau Field.
Acquisition of Digicorp, Inc.
Most recently, WIN acquired Digicorp, Inc., a leading IT, cybersecurity, telephony and structured cabling provider in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Welcoming Digicorp to the WIN Technology family has enabled us to expand our service offerings to now include video surveillance, voice and structured cabling.
Why We Do What We Do
Our CEO, Scott Hoffmann, has always been a believer in being involved in the communities WIN serves. We are a proud member of the Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce, and working together along with the Chamber, we can make a difference in our community. This is just one of the reasons our purpose statement at WIN is “Connections Matter”. It’s not just a tag line; it is how we think and behave.
Connecting You to the Things that Matter Most
At WIN, we aim to leverage digital infrastructure services and solutions that connect people to information, businesses to businesses, doctors and patients to lifesaving technologies, towers to switches, people to people, and others to our communities.
Whether you are a business with 20 or 2,000 employees, we can help support your IT and network connectivity needs. If you would like to learn more about working with WIN Technology, reach out to me at luke.white@wintechnology.com.
