On Thursday, June 12th, the Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce will launch a brand-new signature event: Taste of the Prairie — a restaurant showcase designed to highlight local flavor, celebrate small business, and bring the Eden Prairie community together in a fun, accessible way.
While this is the first year for Taste of the Prairie, it builds on the Chamber’s strong history of supporting local restaurants. From promotional campaigns to interactive events like the Eatin’ Prairie Burger Battle, the Chamber has long been committed to driving visibility, traffic, and community support to Eden Prairie’s food scene.
We sat down with Pat MulQueeny, President of the Eden Prairie Chamber of Commerce, to explore the purpose behind this new event, the impact it’s designed to create, and why it’s so important for our community.
A New Event with a Familiar Mission
“Taste of the Prairie really came from conversations we’ve had over the years with local restaurants,” Pat explains. “Many were interested in an event where they could offer samples and directly connect with the community. This year, with the help of Fat Pants Brewing Co. and First Western Bank & Trust, the timing and partnerships aligned — and we’re thrilled to launch it.”
Hosted outdoors in the heart of Eden Prairie’s business district, the event promises a lively atmosphere with unlimited food tastings, live music from School of Rock, interactive vendor booths, and community-focused activities.
More Than a Food Event
While food is the centerpiece, Taste of the Prairie goes beyond sampling menus.
“This event reflects what the Chamber is really about — supporting small businesses, building community connections, and boosting local pride,” Pat shares. “It’s a chance for residents to engage with the businesses that make our city unique, all in one place.”
Pat emphasizes that this event continues the Chamber’s work of serving as a connector — creating opportunities where businesses and the community can come together meaningfully.
Supporting Restaurants and Strengthening the Chamber
For Eden Prairie’s restaurants, the event provides a highly visible platform at a time when many are still recovering from the lasting impacts of the pandemic.
“Restaurants have always been an important part of our local economy and community culture,” Pat says. “Events like this — and initiatives like our Eatin’ Prairie Burger Battle — give them a boost, bring in new customers, and showcase the diversity of our dining scene.”
Revenue from Taste of the Prairie also supports Chamber programs throughout the year, from small business advocacy and economic development to professional development and student engagement.
“As a nonprofit, we rely on the success of events like this to fuel everything else we do,” Pat adds.
Why It Matters — and What’s Ahead
When asked what makes Taste of the Prairie special to him personally, Pat doesn’t hesitate: “It’s something we’ve talked about for years. Seeing it finally come together — in partnership with Fat Pants and First Western Bank & Trust — is exciting. I love the outdoor setting, the community vibe, and most of all, what it stands for: a celebration of Eden Prairie.”
And as for the future? “We want this to become an annual tradition. Something that grows, evolves, and continues to bring people together.”
