Legislative Luncheon with Congressman Phillips Recap, Video and News Article
Congressman Phillips spoke to the Eden Prairie Chamber members and shared his gratitude for the support he has received during his 6 years of service. He shared some key areas he has concerns and items for people to watch in the weeks and months ahead. This included the lack of a budget bill and the fact that the government will run out of money on September 30 and would have a government shutdown if a bill is not passed.
The national debt is another major concern for him as we have over $30 trillion in debt currently and servicing the debt now totals $900 billion. He blamed both parties for the issue and when asked on how to solve the issue, he shared his thoughts on reducing spending, increasing taxes and also that term limits would help elected officials make the hard decisions that needed to be made.
He was pleased with the bi-partisan support for Ukraine and Israel. He also shared we are not as separated and divided as organizations (angrytainment) would have us believe. He gave numerous examples of Republicans and Democrats getting along and sharing views and friendships. He shared that when he has attended rallies whether with Democrats or at MAGA events, he never was mistreated and he enjoyed meeting the people from both sides of the aisle. He encouraged people to get involved and run for office – we need good people to step up and be involved. He also commented that we need to re-establish the brand of the United States worldwide.
One other key takeaway was his work to try and make it easier for starting a business in our country and state. He highlighted how it is too burdensome the number of forms and regulations that a person starting a business needs to fill out. He shared that we have too many politicians who do not have any business experience. Congressman Phillips finished with a lengthy Q&A taking a wide range of questions related to issues facing the country, our economy and what the future may have. We thank the Congressman for his time and providing us with the federal updates.
